Coach Sean McGinley brings over 20 years of elite coaching experience to the North Carolina Aquatic Club (NCAC). His coaching journey began during his freshman year at Villanova University, sparked by the encouragement of his own mentors.

Proven Track Record

Before joining the NCAC staff in 2014, Sean honed his craft at the Plymouth Whitemarsh Aquatic Club. Throughout two decades on the deck, he has developed a reputation for technical excellence and high-level results. His resume includes:

  • Developing multiple athletes who have earned Junior National qualifying times

  • Guiding swimmers to prestigious memberships on the Junior National Team

  • Transitioning developmental talent into elite, championship-level competitors

Philosophy and Personal Life

Sean’s coaching style is defined by patience, discipline, and a relentless work ethic—traits he mirrors in his personal life. An avid proponent of physical fitness, Sean is a dedicated strength trainer and former bodybuilding competitor. He uses this background to instill a sense of grit and athletic integrity in every swimmer he mentors.

Coach Sean excels at connecting with his athletes on a personal level, inspiring them to push past their limits and achieve their absolute best both in and out of the water.

“Nina Smith, my club coach, was a huge positive influence on my life,” Sean recalls. “I was thrilled to have the opportunity to begin my professional career coaching alongside her.”
